Our fathers cast long shadows, sometimes they offer us a place to hide, sometimes they offer shade, and other times they block us from the light completely and we cannot find our way and are lost. We end up where we may, either because of those lessons, or in spite of them. Our parents are our makers in form and in spirit, and though we may not like those forms and though we may choose to rail against them, there is only so much that can be done.
